Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Collection will be held, Saturday, May 15, 2010 and Saturday, September 18, 2010.  Hours:  9AM – Noon at the Recycling Center on Ivory Street.

Partially filled aerosol cans may be brought to the event. Empty aerosol cans may be recycled curbside. Household alkaline batteries made after 1994 do not contain mercury, and may be disposed of in the trash. Rechargeable batteries are hazardous and should be brought to the event.

Air Conditioners ($15) as well as automobile, truck tires ($5-7) and car/boat batteries ($5).  These items will be collected at the event by the Friends of the Library with proceeds, after disposal expenses, going to help the Library.

Cathode Ray Tubes, as found in all TVs, computer monitors, all types of electronic equipment and small appliances will be accepted again this year by the Friends of the Public Library at very reasonable rates. $10 for 24" and smaller, otherwise $20.00 per item over 24".
                      
Automobile, truck tires and car/boat batteries will be accepted by the League of Women Voters, again at reasonable disposal prices, i.e. car tires $4.00 each, truck tires $15.00 each.

Did You Know:
Latex paint is not a hazardous material and can be disposed of in your regular trash pick-up. Remove can lid and add a small amount of kitty litter (or air dry.)  Dry latex paint can be put in the trash.

Please carpool to this event whenever possible, and remember to ask your neighbors, friends, or family if there are any products you could bring for them. It is very important to follow the guidelines about which products are acceptable. Let’s help make this a successful event!

Mercury
Free exchange of dangerous mercury thermometers with safe digital ones at the Health Department at 90 Pond Street or Ivory Street Drop-Off Recycling Center Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri 1PM - 4 PM, Saturday 9 AM - 2 PM.
Pack in small baggies for safe transport.  Turn in your old mercury thermometers also in exchange for a digital one.

Clean Harbors
If you are unable to attend HHWD, Braintree residents can dispose of hazardous materials at the Clean Harbors site off of Quincy Avenue.  Please call 781-380-7100 for more information, cost and directions. Hours:  Saturdays, March through November from 8AM-Noon, 1 Hill Avenue, Braintree MA.
